Luxury trains in Peru
Belmond Andean Explorer, a night train at high altitude
There are many services to enjoy aboard Belmont Andean Explorer, the experience also includes excursions at each destination, typical dances and handicraft demonstrations. This train leaves travelers breathless and not only because of the scenic beauty of the journey but also because you reach 4,000 meters of altitude in the pass of La Raya, the highest point of the route between Cusco and Puno.
One of the highest altitude routes in the world is traveled by the Belmond Andean Explorer, the first high-end Peruvian night train that connects Cusco, Puno and Arequipa in two or three-night journeys, also combines adventure and European refinement for only 40 passengers
Its rooms are practically the same as those you would find in a five-star hotel. They have a bar lounge and two restaurant cars that offer you another journey through Peruvian gastronomy. Belmond Andean Explorer has a spa where you can indulge in Andean rituals, relaxing massages and rejuvenating treatments. All the rooms of this luxury train have huge windows to enjoy the scenery outside. Belmond Andean Explorer has an observatory car to take fabulous photos while traveling or sipping good pisco sour outdoors with Andean landscapes in the background.
It is one of the crown jewels of the British company Belmond, the same that operates the legendary Eastern & Oriental Express, between Thailand and Singapore, and the no less iconic Venice Simplon Orient Express, the king of luxury trains. That seal of quality is present in Peru for two nights and three days of the journey.
The major difference that Andean Explorer has with the luxury trains of Europe is that it runs during the day and stops at night. The first night stop is at the port of Puno, on the shores of Lake Titicaca. The second night, the train rests near a small lagoon in the middle of the desert, in a place called Saracocha, on its way to Arequipa.
The cost of the trip with all-inclusive service: meals, drinks, drinks, excursions, and transfers is 1500 USD. You can take the services on the route Cusco-Puno-Arequipa or vice versa Arequipa-Puno-Cusco.
