    Detailed Itinerary

    DAY 1

Transfer to the Lodge & Twilight Rover Excursion (L, D)

Welcome to one of the most luxurious lodge in the Peruvian Jungle

Early in the morning you will take the flight from Lima to Puerto Maldonado (on your own). Our recommendation is to depart at 08:05 am and arrive at 10:45 am, to make the most out of your stay. Once you arrive to Puerto Maldonado we will pick you up to transfer you to the Inkaterra Lounge in the nearby town. There the staff of the lodge will welcome you and give you a short briefing to make your stay more comfortable. After that you will navigate on a motorized canoe along the Madre de Dios River to the Hacienda Concepción Lodge (approximately 25 minutes).

After lunch you may walk through the Concepción Trails, the inside property nature trails, where you will discover and learn about the primary and secondary rainforests, their components, uses, transformations by human beings and their importance to the world.

At dusk take the Twilight River Excursion on the motorized canoe on the Madre de Dios River. During this activity you will learn about the river’s ecosystem, Amazonian creeks, nocturnal animal behavior and the southern hemisphere stellar constellation. In the evening enjoy a nice dinner in the dining room of the Casa Grande.

    Overnight:  Hacienda Concepción

    DAY 2

    Hidden Rainforest Excursion (B, L, D)

Discover the incredible biodiversity that the Jungle has to offer

During the breakfast you will enjoy a variety of local products coming right out of the jungle. This is going to be another fascinating day because you will have the opportunity to get into the Tambopata National Reserve heading to Lake Sandoval. Here you will understand why Madre de Dios is called the capital of biodiversity of Peru. The tour guide will talk about the Reserve’s conservation efforts and the lake’s formation. You will navigate on a dugout canoe across this mirror-like oxbow lake which is the habitat  of the endangered giant river otter (Pteronura brasiliensis), the red howler monkey (Alouatta seniculus), the paiche (Arapaima gigas), the blue and yellow macaw (Ara ararauna) and of one of the world’s biggest fresh water reptiles, the black caiman (Melanosuchus niger).

After your lunch return to the lodge where you can go for another ride on the motorized canoe to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway Interpretation Center. Its conservation and the construction will be shown by the tour guide. Go up on one of the two 98-ft towers (30 m) and cross the 7 hanging bridges that connect the treetops at 91 ft. (28 m.) above the ground. You will enjoy the unique views with the chance to spot white-throated toucans (Ramphastos tucanus), woodpeckers, trogons, squirrel monkeys (Saimiri boliviensis) and the three-toed sloth (Choleopus hoffmani).

After descending keep feeling the incredible primary rainforests energy while crossing the 200-meter wooden bridge over the aguajales swamps. The flora and fauna in this particular ecosystem is just spectacular.

You will participate in an excursion during the night, the “Hidden Rainforest Excursion”. There you will have a chance to see animals that display intriguing behavior patterns and enhanced senses as adaptation mechanisms. The jungle sounds of the living nature will surround you.

    Overnight:  Hacienda Concepción

    DAY 3

    Transfer to the Airport (B)

Time say goodbye and take your flight!

This morning you will be transferred by boat from the Hacienda Concepción Lodge to Puerto Maldonado, back to the Inkaterra Lounge (Butterfly House), where you will wait for your flight back home or to your next destination.  You can take this opportunity to visit the beautiful butterfly house and learn about the fascinating transformation of these colorful insects, bred in a laboratory.
